A snapshot will be automatically created for each VM in the policy every day. It is recommended to add the VMs running important services to the policy first, so that VM data can be quickly recovered in the event of ransomware attacks and other serious security problems.

The policy usually only retains the latest snapshot file. When a serious security event is detected, such as compromised protection or a suspected ransomware attack, the latest snapshot file before the event will be retained for 7 days.

Steps:

Step 1: Change the VM snapshots. Login SCP go to Resource Overview > Resource Center locate the related resource pool click Settings > Snapshots > Snapshots Policies > More the policy Mode select Smart.

Step 2: Add resource pools for which you want to enable the data protection policy. Click Add Resource Pools select the resource pool then click OK.

Only the VMs in the resource pool with data protection policy enabled can be added to the policy. The added VMs will be removed from the policy if the resource pool to which the VMs belong is removed.

Step 3: Select VMs and consistency groups to add to the data protection policy.

Under Virtual Machines click Add Virtual Machines select the VM needs to be added to this policy click OK.

Under Consistency Groups click Add Consistency Groups select the VM needs to be added to this policy click OK.

For the consistency groups you need to create before adding it to the policy. Login SCP go to Resource Overview > Resource Center locate the related resource pool click Settings > Snapshots > Consistency Groups click New to create a new consistency group.
