Maintenance Mode

The administrator can use the maintenance mode when the administrator needs to power off a single node in the hardware maintenance scenario. After the maintenance mode is activated, the system will first migrate the services on the platform to other nodes to ensure that the replacement process will not affect the business. The maintenance mode can achieve the effect of self-operation and maintenance.

Precautions:

  1. The cluster controller does not support the Enter Maintenance Mode. If you need to maintain the cluster controller, please switch to other nodes as the master first.
  2. If there are nodes offline in the environment, you cannot enter the maintenance mode.
  3. There is a task in progress on the node to be maintained. You cannot enter the maintenance mode temporarily. You need to wait for the task to complete before entering.
  4. Currently, only one node is allowed to enter maintenance mode at the same time.

Steps:

Step 1: Login to HCI go to Nodes > Nodes select the node you want to enter maintenance mode, move the mouse over the node. Click More and choose Enter Maintenance Mode. In the new pop-up window, relevant information will be displayed. After confirming it is correct, click OK.

Step 2: To avoid impact the business in the new windows you can select shutdown or migrate VM to another node. By clicking the Select Shutdown for Multiple buttons, you can choose to shut down all virtual machines. After selecting to shut down all virtual machines, the Select Shutdown for Multiple buttons will change to Select Migrate for Multiple, allowing you to click again to switch. You can also manage individual virtual machines by clicking the plus sign. Click Next

Step 3: Confirm the VM will be shutdown. In the new page will show the VM will be shutdown, you can change the VM action by clicking Prev button. After confirming click Next.

Step 4: Confirm the VM will be migration. In the new page will show the VM will be shutdown, you can change the target node here, you can select Auto or a specific node. Click OK.

Step 5: Confirm the pop-up windows message and you can also check Auto shut down node after entering Maintenance Mode here or power of the node after the node enter the maintenance mode. Then fill in the password click OK wait for the node enter the maintenance mode complete.

After hardware adjust complete power on the node. After the node enter the system completely. Login to HCI go to Nodes > Nodes select the node enter the maintenance mode move the mouse to the node section and click more > Exit Maintenance Mode, in the new page enter the password click OK. Wait for the node exit maintenance mode completely.
