DR Test

Introduction

You can perform DR tests on VMs in protection groups. During a DR test, new VMs are created on the secondary site for testing. The DR test has no impact on VMs on the primary site or placeholder VMs.

Precautions

To avoid business interruptions, VMs created for DR tests are not connected to virtual networks. To verify your business after a DR test, you need to create a dedicated DR test network and manually connect these VMs to this network.

Prerequisites

A protection group is associated with a recovery plan.

Procedure

  1. Go to Resources > Disaster Recovery > Disaster Recovery > Recovery Plan, select the target recovery plan for the DR test, and click DR Test above the list. You can view the introduction to the DR test function and choose whether to use reserved node resources to perform the DR test.

  1. Click Next and select an RP for the DR test VMs. You can specify whether to sync data on the primary site for the DR test. If you do not sync the data, VMs are directly powered on on the secondary site for the DR test. In this case, you can select an RP on the secondary site for the VMs. If you choose to sync the data immediately, the current status of the VMs on the primary site is synced to the secondary site. Then, VMs are powered on on the secondary site for the DR test. The status of the DR test VMs is consistent with the VMs on the primary site.

  1. Click OK to start the DR test. During the DR test, you can choose More > View Progress to view the progress of the DR test.

  1. After the DR test is complete, DR test VMs (not placeholder VMs) are created on the secondary site. These VMs are not connected to the edge.
  2. Go to the View Progress page to verify the businesses run by the DR test VMs and tag the VMs as Available. VMs that are not tagged as Available or tagged as Unavailable are recorded in the DR test report.
  3. After the DR test ends, if you click Finish Test and Clean Up, the DR test VMs and data, including all DR test VMs tagged as Available and Unavailable, are deleted. In addition, network devices and VM groups generated during the DR test are also deleted.

  1. After the cleanup ends, select the corresponding protection group and click Download to view the detailed DR test report.
