Add Protection Groups

{{ $t('productDocDetail.updateTime') }}: 2025-12-18

Introduction

You can add VMs associated with different DR policies to a protection group. In the figure below, WEB1, APP1, and DB1 are added to protection group 1. This enables you to perform DR test, failback, or recovery operations on VMs with different RPOs in protection group 1. You can customize the priorities of VMs in a protection group based on their dependency to ensure that businesses can be started as normal. You can also specify the priorities of different protection groups to prioritize important businesses during DR.

Precautions

None.

Prerequisites

DR policies are created, and protected VMs are associated with the policies.

Procedure

  1. Go to Resources > Disaster Recovery > Disaster Recovery > Protection Group and click New to create a protection group. Specify the priority of the protection group. Backup, data transmission, recovery, DR test, and failback operations are preferably performed on protection groups with higher priorities.

  1. Add VMs running the same business, including OA1, APP1, and the MySQL instance, to protection group 1.
  2. Specify the order in which the VMs in the same protection group are powered on based on the logic of the business architecture. For example, you can first start the database VM and start the OA and app VMs after the waiting time ends.
  3. You can add protection groups to a new or existing recovery plan to perform DR test, data transmission, and failback operations on the VMs in these protection groups.
  4. Complete protection group configuration.
