Backup Copy

{{ $t('productDocDetail.updateTime') }}: 2025-12-18

The backup copy feature periodically synchronizes the backup data of the VM from the source storage to another destination storage, creating a backup copy. This ensures that even if the backup data on the source storage is corrupted or lost, you can still restore the business using the copy on the destination storage.

Main Features and Limitations:

  1. Storage Requirements: The source and destination storage cannot be the same storage device. Additionally, destination storage does not support being configured as local storage.
  2. Prerequisite: A backup policy must be created for the VM before replication can be performed based on its backup chain.

Step1: Configurate backup copy destination storage repository. Before creating backup copy policy, you need to set the backup copy storage first. Go to Disaster Recovery > Scheduled Backup > Scheduled Backup Policy > Backup Repositories. Click Add (if the SCP manage server HCI cluster you can select the specify cluster in the Available section). Select the storage as the backup repository, Click OK (if available space is not enough available space you can add a new one in storage). In the right side select the purpose and capacity of the current datastore select backup copy (you can select all at the same time).

Step 2: Create backup copy policy. Go to Disaster Recovery > Scheduled Backup > Backup Copy Policy click Create Backup Copy Policy Select the Virtual Machine that needs to be added to the backup copy policy.

Applicable Scope: If the virtual machine belongs to a tenant, select Tenant; if the virtual machine belongs to an administrator, select Sangfor Cloud Platform.

Step 3: Configure policy. Fill in the name and description, source datastore, destination datastore.

Source Datastore: Datastore where the VM backups are stored.

Destination Datastore: the backup copy destination datastore

Schedule: Merge new backups in the source datastore and then copy the merged backups to the destination datastore. You can select hour(s) or day(s) when you select day(s) you need to specify the time.

Retention Method: Click settings you configure the retention method according to your requirements. The retention method is up to 5 entries.

Transfer Rate: the transfer rate between Source Datastore and Destination Datastore. There are 3 options for Transfer Rate. Unlimited, Specified and Specified per Time Range. Select Specified you can set the maximum transfer rate, select Specified per Time Range you can set the maximum transfer rate and specific time.

Click OK to finish the backup copy policy configuration.
