Virtual machine Full System Recovery
Step1: select the VM and backup point. Log in SCP go to Disaster Recovery > Scheduled Backup > VM backups. Click the VM’s name select the backup you want to recover, click Recover. Or go to Compute > Virtual Machines locate the VM you want to recover click the VM name go to Backup and Disaster Recovery select the backup you want to recover click Recover.
Step2: Choose recovery method. There are 2 recovery methods one is Create a new virtual machine(recommend) the other one is Overwrite the original virtual machine.
The features of Create a new virtual machine:
- A new virtual machine will be recovered from the selected backup files without affecting the original one.
- If data integrity is confirmed, you can set up a production environment with the new virtual machine manually.
- Connect the VM to the network manually to avoid IP address conflict. As the new virtual machine has a different hardware ID, you also need to re-authorize the virtual machine or set the recovery method to Overwrite the original virtual machine if guest OS or software authorization is bound with the hardware ID.
- If an original VM is configured with encryption cards or PF/VF NICs, those configurations will not be synchronized to the new VM.
The features of Overwrite the original virtual machine features:
- The original VM will be shut down and deleted. You can contact a technical support representative to recover the VM within 30 days. Otherwise, the virtual machine will be automatically cleaned up.
- VM hardware configuration keeps unchanged. Therefore, guest OS or software does not need to be reauthorized.
- After recovered, the VM network is unchanged.
- VM snapshots will be removed after VM recovery.
- A full backup will be created after recovery from the archive, and full data will be transferred in a DR scenario.
- If an original VM is configured with encryption cards or PF/VF NICs, those configurations will not be synchronized to the new VM.
Step3: Specify destination Location.
When you select Create a new virtual machine you can specify a new virtual machine name and the group where the new virtual machine will reside, and then select the storage tag, Run Location and Storage Policy.
When you select Overwrite the original virtual machine you cannot specify the virtual machine name and the group, and then select the storage tag, Run Location and Storage Policy. At the same time, you can specify which disk needs to be recovered by selecting Specified or recovering all disk by selecting All. If you want the VM after recovery can power on automatically you can check the option Power on the VM after recovery. Click OK then fill in the password waiting for the VM recovery complete.
File recovery
The backup file recovery feature allows you to download deleted files from existing backup files when files are mistakenly deleted or corrupted within the virtual machine.
File System:
Windows: Supports NTFS, FAT32 file system formats.
Linux: Supports ext2, ext3, ext4, xfs file system formats.
File Size: Files larger than 5GB cannot be downloaded.
Special Characters: Files with special characters in their names (such as %, &, etc.) cannot be downloaded.
Storage Type: If the virtual machine's backup is stored on an sffs storage, files with symbolic links pointing to the /proc or /run directories do not support downloading.
Step1: select the VM and backup point. Log in SCP go to Disaster Recovery > Scheduled Backup > VM backups. Click the VM’s name select the backup you want to perform file recovery, click Browse Files. Or go to Compute > Virtual Machines locate the VM you want to recover click the VM name go to Backup and Disaster Recovery select the backup you want to perform file recovery click Browse Files.
Step2: In the new page click OK, waiting the file be complete load. Select the file you want to recovery click Download File. Waiting for a while the browser will pop up a new prompt to download the new. Save the file as you want.
If the name of a file/folder starts or ends with spaces, the spaces will be removed, and the characters not supported by Windows be converted to "_".
