Step1: Configurate backup repository. For the details you can refer to section 3.1.1.
Step2: select VM. go to Disaster Recovery > Scheduled Backup > CDP Policy click New.
Applicable Scope: If the virtual machine belongs to a tenant, select Tenant; if the virtual machine belongs to an administrator, select Sangfor Cloud Platform.
Step3: Configure backup schedule.
Log Retention Period: Form 8 hours to 3 days
IO Activity Log Interval: 1s or 5s.
Backup Interval: From 1 hour to 24 hours. A longer backup interval saves space in the backup repository but may result in slower VM recovery from CDP backups. One hour interval is recommended if backup repository capacity is sufficient.
Quiesce Guest File System:
1. You can enable this option to quiesce the guest file system before backup, so as to ensure the data backed up is consistent with the file system data.
2. It is not recommended to enable this option when I/O is busy or backups are frequently created.
3. The guest file system may fail to be quiesced due to high disk IO. It is recommended to enable this feature when the disk IO usage is low.
The following is the OS supported by quiesce guest file system function.

Full Backup: Check this option the VM will perform regular full backups, you can select monthly or weekly perform the full backup. The features of full backup are as follows:
1. Reduces the number of VM backups and improves IO performance of the recovered VM in data fetching phase.
2. Full backup is periodically executed and is not influenced by incremental backups. The backup task will not be canceled due to timeout.
3. Priority of full backup is higher than that of incremental backup, which will not be executed when full backup task is in progress.
4. Full backup consumes more resources and may take more time to complete.
Backup Retention:
RPO Warning: RPO achieved is slightly greater than the RPO configured.
RPO Alert: RPO achieved is largely greater than the RPO configured. Immediate handling is required.
Step4: Configure backup repository. For CDP you need to select backup repository and IO activity log repositories. For IO activity log repositories If there have several VM in the same policy you can select for One for all VMs (all the VM use the same datastore) or One for each VM (Define different storage for each virtual machine) IO Activity Log Repositories.
Max IO Activity Log Size: When disk IO activity logs size reaches this value, the earliest logs will be merged to free up disk for newly generated logs. You can also change this value as per your needs.
the maximum space used by IO logs: average write IO speed * 3600 (1 hour and seconds) * retention time (hours) / 1024 = GB. For example, if the average writes IO speed of the business system is 10MB/s, the retention time is 1 day, and the interval is 1 hour, the maximum space used by the IO log is 10 * 3600 * 24 / 1024 = 844 GB.
IO Activity Log Cache Size Limit: The main function of the IO Activity Log Cache Size Limit is to provide an in-memory buffer for real-time data writes during the CDP process, ensuring that data is recorded promptly under high IO load, thereby ensuring the achievement of RPO. Its size is dependent on the platform version, and the default value is recommended.
The value for the IO Activity Log Cache Size Limit should remain as the default. If modification is necessary, please contact the Sangfor team.
Archive backups to another repository: Merge backups and archive them to the specified repository. By clicking the Advanced button, you can define the start month, start data, file retention period and compress archives. When checked Compress archives can save storage space but may consume more CPU resources and increase time spent on archiving backups and fetching data after recovery.
Step 4: configurate the policy name. in this step you can fill in the policy name and the description.
Step 5: Configuration confirmation. Confirm the backup policy information, click OK.
