aSV Expansion

Precaution

  1. It is recommended to perform host expansion during the off-peak hours.
  2. If it is a two-node cluster expanding to a three-host cluster (or more) without witness node, all virtual machines and NFV devices within the cluster need to be shut down.
  3. If the cluster has three or more nodes, VM does not need to be stopped during node expansion.
  4. Ensure that there is sufficient license before expansion.

Below are the specific steps for node expansion.

Step 1: Rack and power the physical host to be expanded.

Step 2: Connect the host to be expanded to the corresponding switch.

Step 3: Configure the management IP address for the host to be expanded.

Step 4: login HCI go to System > Health Check Perform a healthy check. If there are any unnormal items need to be fixed first.

Step 5: Click storage > summary to check whether on going task.

Step 6: Go to Nodes > Nodes click Add New Node Select the new node to be added, click the new node fill in the super administrator’s password click OK. If the host you want to add is not on the list, click Add New Node fill in the node IP and password manually, waiting for the node check passed then click Next.

Step 7: Health check. After the health check is completed, click Next. Then click OK in the pop-up window.

Step 8: Configuration confirmation. Confirm all the information is correct click OK to finish the process and wait for the new node add to the cluster complete.

Step 9: After the nodes add to the cluster if you want to add the new node’s disk to the aSAN please refer to section 2.5.2.2.2 aSAN Expansion.

aSAN Expansion

Below are the specific steps for disks expansion.

Step 1: Insert the disk into the host and ensure the host can recognize the disk.

Step 2: login HCI go to System > Health Check Perform a healthy check.  If there are any unnormal items need to be fixed first.

Step 3: Click storage > summary to check whether on going task.

Step 4: In Storage > Virtual Storage, click on Expand Capacity and select the volume you want to expand.

Step 5: Select nodes. Select the node that has new disks that you expect to add to aSAN.

Step 6: Select disks. Select the disks you expect to add to aSAN.

Step 7: Verify disks usage. According to the disks selected in step 6, HCI will display a disk group configured based on best practices. If the disk group is not match the planning, you can adjust the disk groups configure by clicking Edit Disk Group. Configure hard disks and hard disk groups and then make a detailed usage plan for each node's disk. The system will automatically detect the disks of all nodes in the cluster.

Step 8: Confirm the configuration.

The page displays virtual storage configurations, including nodes number, available raw capacity, 2-replica storage capacity, 2-replica storage capacity, and the total number of disks and disk groups. After confirming configurations, click OK. Then, input the administrator account password click OK. Then, waiting for the vs imitation process complete.

Step 9: After disk expansion, perform a healthy check to ensure the platform is running stably.
