Connectivity Test

{{ $t('productDocDetail.updateTime') }}: 2025-12-26

Introduction

A connectivity test checks the reachability between two objects (such as a VM and an IP address) in a network topology. IPv4 and IPv6 protocols are supported. Packets are sent from the source object to the destination object to quickly identify the network failure (such as an unreachable route or firewall blocking).

Constraints and Restrictions

The source and destination objects must be in the same resource pool. To test the connectivity between objects in different resource pools, add the corresponding resource pools to a communication domain first.

The destination object must be an IP address. You cannot directly select a VM. (You need to manually enter the VM's internal IP address.)

Only one connectivity test can be initiated at a time. Wait for a test to complete before initiating the next one.

Prerequisites

The resource pool to which the source and destination objects belong is running normally.

The IP address (IPv4 or IPv6) of the destination object has been obtained, and the IP address has been assigned to a VM or network device.

To test the connectivity to an IPv6 address, the resource pool must support IPv6 network configuration.

Precautions

Before the test, confirm that the ICMP protocol is enabled (not blocked by the firewall) for the source object. Otherwise, the test result will be "unreachable".

If the test fails, check the routing configuration and security group rules, then test again.

Steps

Step 1.Go to Networking > Topology and click Test Connectivity. The Test Connectivity page appears.

Step 2.Configure the following fields:

Field

Description

Operation Suggestion

Resource Pool

Select the resource pool to which the source and destination objects belong.

Select the resource pool to which both the source and destination objects belong (Example: Hygon Cluster (c86)).

IP Version

Select the IP protocol used for the test. IPv4 and IPv6 protocols are supported.

Select a protocol based on the type of the destination IP address. (For example, select IPv4 if the destination IP address is 192.168.1.10.)

Source - Virtual Machine

Select the VM that serves as the source object to initiate the test (no IP address is required).

Select a VM whose network connectivity needs to be tested (Example: web-server-01).

Destination - Object Type

The fixed value is IP. The destination object must be an IP address.

IP is selected by default. No changes are required.

Destination - IP Address

Enter the IP address of the destination object.

Enter the internal IP address of a VM or the IP address of a network device (Example: 192.168.1.20). Ensure that the IP address has been assigned and is valid.

Step 3.Click Start. The system will initiate the test and display the result (reachable or unreachable).

Step 4.View the test result. If the destination object is unreachable from the source object, check the network configuration as prompted. After the test is complete, click Close.
