Configure Bad Sector Scanning

{{ $t('productDocDetail.updateTime') }}: 2026-01-05

Description

Hard disk will be periodically scanned for bad sectors. If any bad sector is detected, disk repairing will be conducted. To ensure scanning speed, it is better to perform scans during off-peak hours.

Precautions

  1. Bad sector scanning is for hard disks, and a full-flash environment does not support bad sector scanning and repair.
  2. The bad sector scan will be performed within the configured period. If the current round of scans is not completed on time, it will start from the end of the current scan during the next scan.
  3. The speed of bad sector scanning will be dynamically adjusted according to the load of the disk, and the impact on storage performance is <5%.
  4. Bad sector scanning and repairing are only performed on the occupied area in the disk and not on the blank area of the disk.
  5. Stretched clusters only support bad sector scanning, not bad sector recovery.
  6. When a bad sector repair task is initiated, there will also be a data synchronization task on the interface.

Prerequisites

None.

Steps

  1. Go to Storage > Virtual Storage and click Settings.
  1. Configure schedule for Bad Sector Scan.
  2. After enabling, there will be a bad sector scanning task on the HCI task list.
