Install the VM Security Component

{{ $t('productDocDetail.updateTime') }}: 2026-01-05

Precautions

  1. A security component can be installed automatically for the VM if the licenses are sufficient.
  2. The automatic installation can be completed within 10 minutes.
  3. A security component can be installed only for operating systems in the compatibility whitelist.
  4. Installing a security component doesn't restart the VM.

Steps

  1. Go to Security Settings > Security Component Installation and check Auto-install security component during vmTools installation. Then, aSecurity automatically detects new assets and installs security components for VMs through vmTools. In addition, the VM security protection platform supports automatically updating security components through vmTools. You can view the compatibility whitelist of operating systems by clicking View Supported Operating Systems.

  1. Install security components for existing VMs on HCI.

If Auto-install security component during vmTools installation is checked, automatic installation will be performed for powered-on VMs with vmTools installed.

If Auto-install security component during vmTools installation is not checked, which may be the case that businesses are running, and security protection and monitoring are required only for some of the VMs, you can select the VMs from the list and click Install Security Component for bulk installation.
