Athena SWG (formerly Internet Access Gateway) ensures visibility and control across the network, detecting risks like unauthorized access, non-compliant activities, and data leaks to manage endpoints.
The endpoint application database consists of predefined applications and custom applications. These applications may be referenced during the configuration of application access control rules under Endpoint Check, outgoing file policies under Data Leak Prevention, and application audit policies under Ingress Client Audit. Predefined applications cannot be modified or removed, whereas custom applications can be added, removed, and modified.
Predefined Desktop Apps
You can go to System > Objects > Desktop App Database > Predefined DesktopApps to view all the predefined applications that can be identified by the current IAG device. To update predefined applications, make sure that you have obtained the corresponding license. To check whether the license is valid, go to System > General > Licensing to view the licensing status of Application Signature Database. If the license is within the validity period and the network connection of your device is normal, the predefined applications can be regularly updated online to the newest.
Custom Desktop Apps
You can go to System > Objects > Desktop App Database > Custom Desktop Apps to add custom endpoint applications that are not included in the predefined applications.
Steps
Step 1.Go to System > Objects > Desktop App Database > Custom Desktop Apps and click Add. In the Add Custom Application dialog box that appears, click How to Get App Properties to download the application property identification tool named app_tool and the corresponding guide.
Step 2.Double-click app_tool.exe to open the tool interface. Then, drag the shortcut icon (or the .exe file) of the custom application that you want to add to the blue square box on the tool interface, and click Copy to copy the identified application properties.
Step 3.Switch back to the Add Custom Application dialog box, specify Application, Group, and Description as needed, click Add Properties to add the identified application properties with one click, and click OK. The custom application is successfully added.
